Letter from the Director

Dear Carlsbad Music Festival Supporter:

Thank you so much for your support of the Carlsbad Music Festival’s 13th annual Festival on August 26-28, 2016 and Village Music Walk on June 18, 2016. With your help, we were able to present our most ambitious events to date that were both artistically cutting-edge and community-oriented.

Highlights from the 2016 Festival included:

  • Mainstage artists: Modern music collective slash chamber orchestra wild Up; jazz pianist and composer, Pascal LeBoeuf and his trio; Grammy-nominated LA Percussion Quartet; Synthesist, singer, and composer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith; LA-based contemporary piano duo HOCKET; wild Up musicians pianist Richard Valitutto, soprano Justine Aronson, and ensemble Gnarwhallaby; and Persian classical music trio Namad Trio.

  • The “New Currents” series, consisting of emerging contemporary cutting-edge performers and ensembles, free to the public. These concerts were held on the St. Michael’s by-the-Sea campus in a variety of concert venues.

  • A total of 35 adventurous artists in a variety of genres performed in the heart of Carlsbad.

  • over 40 FREE concerts offered in 8 different community spaces.

  • 4500 people attended the Festival.

  • Rave reviews were garnered in the press.

Improvements in the Festival experience this season included:

  • A beer garden, sponsored by locally-owned brewery Pizza Port, was offered on the lawn at St. Michael’s by-the-Sea, enhancing the festive environment at the Festival.

  • The addition of food trucks to the St. Michael’s By The Sea Venue providing a better overall experience at that location.

  • The introduction of the Artisan Market at St. Michael’s By The Sea.

  • The addition of venue sponsors, including St. Michael’s by-the-Sea and Homelife Village Realtors.

Funds from your grant went towards Festival Artist fees, enabling us to put together this remarkable lineup of musicians. Below is more information about the Festival and how your funds were used.

Thank you so much,
